Filmmaker Rupesh Paul, who was excited to start the shooting of his film "Kamasuta 3D", says the project didn't go on the floors as per the plan.

"Kamasutra 3D" shooting was to start from March 20 here, but now it has been pushed to April 12.

Confirming this, Paul told: "The shooting of 'Kamasutra 3D' got delayed due to some issues in connection with my earlier movie 'St. Dracula 3D'. There were some Christian organisations who sought ban on the movie, citing reasons of hurting religious sentiments. So these protests and issues associated with them made us to postpone the shoot of 'Kamasutra 3D' to April 12th. I am very depressed with the new development."

"Kamasutra 3D" is the debut movie of controversial model Sherlyn Chopra, who plays lead in it.

Hyderabad, March 30: Ardent devotees fast and wake up all night on holy Shiva Ratri. But men soon found interesting ways to keep awake through the night. They open a bottle, whip up playing cards and play all night to please the Lord by keeping awake. Soon village elders started arranging recording dances for the youth. While women and aged go to temples and participate in night-long bhajans, youngsters play cards till midnight and then attend the recording dances which become raunchy after midnight.

It is all like the opening song of ‘Chatrapati, ‘Neeku Laddu Mithayilu Leva’. The dancers perform some soft numbers until police leave, taking what is due to them. Then the night turns vulgar. Dancers do steps to double meaning songs and start undressing slowly. Before the conclusion, young patrons of this great art start throwing currency notes at their favorite dancers. In the final round of dance, dancers come on the stage covering their bodies only with towels. Then starts the real treat. Audience fight with each other to give money to the dancers. The dancers then open their towels and show their curves to the youth who gave money selectively. They gather thousands of rupees thrown at them. These tips are in addition to what the organizers pay to them for performing the dance.

Kotappakonda in Guntur district has a famous Shiva temple. It is on a hill with 3 peaks and also called Trikutadri. As the Lord of the place is famous, so are the dances performed there. Youngsters gather from several neighbouring districts gather there to watch the dances. Soon the cult spread to temples all over the state. At Visakhapatnam these dances are famous. They are also performed at Chittoor where dancers from neighbouring Chennai city are brought.

Though police strictly prohibit the dances as they do the cock fights during Sankranti, they go on unabated.

This year also police warned strict action against cock fights and Shiva Ratri dances. But both happened. While hundreds of crores of rupees changed hands on cock fights, obscene dances enthused the youth as usual on Shiva Ratri.

Now some dances started finding their way into You Tube and even porn sites. A full programme is now available on the recent dances in several sites. God alone knows how these dances are recorded with clarity, despite the so called restrictions.

Actress Mona Singh, who was in the news for a morphed MMS, said Saturday that her family and friends stood by her.

The MMS was leaked Friday, and went viral.

Mona Singh said in a statement: "It is just completely appalling and disgraceful that someone on the web can go to the extent of morphing my face onto someone else's body to create a sensational video! We have filed a severe complaint at the Cyber Crime Cell and are hoping to find the culprit. People need to realise that before being actors we're respectable women and have family and friends who we're answerable to and who get affected by negativity that is thrown in our direction."

She further added: "Thankfully, my family and friends are standing by me like they always have, supporting me to see this through. If today this can happen to me, it can happen to any innocent girl and things like this can ruin lives and careers forever. This is a VERY SERIOUS issue and it needs to stop! As members of the media, journalists and editors should also take a stand against such acts and not provide the culprits with the publicity that they are hoping for as the outcome of their dastardly acts."

Cairo, March 21: Belly dance is an Egyptian ritual, said to bring fertility and eroticism. In many middle-eastern countries the belly dance is an indispensable feature in weddings. It creates the right mood for the bride and the groom and brings invokes the Gods to bless them to have fertility. We often wonder at the agility of the dancers. This is the reason why the dance made its way to the western countries, where youngsters are learning it as an aerobic art for conditioning the body.

True historical data on belly dance is fragmentary there is relatively little documentation on women's work and activities throughout the age of literacy. Current theories on the history of belly dance are a confusing mixture of speculative extrapolation and personal bias which is then often presented as historical fact. There is much room for more stringent research in this area.

Despite the lack of accurate historical information, a few points can be agreed upon. Belly dancing as it is known today is very old. It retains its connection to fertility and eroticism by being an indispensable feature at weddings in many Middle Eastern countries, performing the multifold purpose of getting the bride and groom (who may have just met) in the mood, making a blessing of fertility on the couple, and providing entertainment for the guests. Today belly dance is enjoyed variously for its artistry, ethnicity, beauty, healthy eroticism and fun!

The movement vocabulary of belly dance is a conglomeration of styles from many regions-Lebanon, North Africa, Egypt, the Arabian Gulf, Turkey as a result of cultural exchange historically through trade and shifting national boundaries. While Middle Easterners make the distinction between "city dance" (stage, cabaret) and "country dance" (regional folk dances), Westerners use the umbrella term of "belly dance" to refer to a broad range of styles united in the use of certain isolation movements, the most prominent and pervasive of which are the isolations of the hips. In addition, isolations of the chest, shoulders, head, hands as well as serpentine and undulating movements of the torso are often found. Another common trademark is a varying degree of flirtation and coquetry. The rhythms and instrumentation used from area to area often have some commonalties despite great regional variations but in all there is an emphasis on percussion.

Because it takes much education for Westerners to be able to recognize and appreciate these regional distinctions in style and practice, we have seen in places such as the North American West Coast, where access to Middle Eastern audiences is limited, the growth of a creative phenomenon which is now called by its proponents, American Tribal style. This version of bellydance combines costuming and movement ideas from many Middle Eastern cultures with trademark innovations that make it more accessible to Western audiences and adaptable to Western venues.

Belly dance is known in the Middle East as raks sharqi, literally, :dance of the East" or "oriental dance". The current western term may be derived from the French dance du ventre, so named because of the exposure of the midriff. Raks sharqi, the contemporary stage form derived from Egyptian baladi and influenced by early Hollywood glamour and western balletic training, is distinct from raks sha'abi or folk dances, which may nevertheless be featured in glitzed up yet authentic versions as part of an oriental stage show.

Today belly dance is enjoyed worldwide and is taught in almost every country. While a small percentage of enthusiasts use belly dance as an income supplement, and smaller percentage derive their sole income from performance and/or teaching, the majority of enthusiasts pursue it for mere enjoyment as exercise, recreation and socialization. Many perform regularly as amateurs or semi-professionals: belly dance communities worldwide are notable for their energy and enthusiasm in putting on collaborative performances, workshops and other events.

It is ironic that while traditionally Middle Eastern women have been discouraged from or censured for pursuing a career as a belly dancer, many Western woman embrace it as a means of rediscovering themselves and nurturing a stronger personal identity and sense of empowerment.

Why Belly dance?

Aside from the joy inherent in learning a beautiful dance art, enthusiasts report a wide variety of benefits gained from the practice of Middle Eastern dance:

Satisfaction from achieving new levels of physical mastery, A feeling of camaraderie, community, making new friends, Strengthening, reshaping and renewed acceptance of one's body, Greater freedom and range of self expression, Relief from back pain, Familiarity with different musical styles and cultures, Spending time for yourself, Bringing joy to others, Girl time, Fun Fun Fun!
